Owning a Siberian Husky
Sadly there are some people who see Siberians as the perfect `designer dog`
bought in order to enhance their owners image, if this is what you are looking
for then a Husky is not for you, neither is any other breed of dog for that
matter. If you are looking for a quiet companion to take for gentle walks; or a
guard dog; should you be extremely house proud or proud of your well tended
garden free of carefully dug pot holes; or if you do not have much spare time-
then a Siberian Husky is definitely not for you! They are energetic, demanding
and can be very destructive in the garden- the house too if you let them.
If amply exercised they can live quite happily in a flat but they prefer a
garden to run around in. Your garden would need to be fully enclosed with at
least a six-foot fence, certainly no less. If your dogs live outside then you
require a secure dog run with high weld mesh fencing and slabbed or concrete
flooring and of course some kind of housing to give the dog shelter. Siberians
are the ultimate escape artists!! My dogs get the run of the house during the
day and sleep outside at night. One loves to be inside with me while the more
independent one often prefers to sit in the garden- whatever the weather.
There is nothing more gorgeous than a Husky puppy but remember they quickly grow
into beautiful but demanding adults. If you are looking for a companion who
makes every day an adventure, if you are prepared to give some respect to that
`free spirited` nature of theirs, and if you can imagine yourself getting caught
up in their world (I don’t care what anyone says, Siberian become a way of
life!) then a Siberian Husky may be just what you are looking for.
