Tentsmuir rally

Scottish Siberian Husky Club Bulletin Board: Working: Tentsmuir rally
By judy wakker on Wednesday, February 08, 2006 - 10:14 pm:

hi all

The trail at Tentsmuir is looking the best i have run on for years. Good mixture of grass, sand and forest trail with plenty of turns and bends to interest the dogs as they go round.

We have a different trail for every class, a first class burger van, excellent parking and even toilets for the mushers!

The toilets are a condition of the Forestry Commission and although i believe some in the club are concerned about the extra cost this brings to the rally, without toilets there will be no Tentsmuir rally. I expect all forests will require this in future. If you are concerned about the cost (around £100), please complain to the Committee, who i am sure will decide what happens next year.

Please send your entries to Gary Hulme. He will be at the Culbin rally this weekend if you want to hand your entry to him.

Gary is talking to a local farmer about a site for camping.

the races are once again sponsored by Royal Canin and as usual all teams will receive a present for the dogs.

We are grateful to the FC for allowing us to hold a rally at Tentsmuir. This will be the first Scottish rally at Tentmuir for a couple of years and a really opportunity to run in one of the best forests available in the UK.

see you there

Judy

Hi All,

1. As you all know (hopefully), camping is not an option in the forest or on the approach roads to the forest. For those that wish to camp I have arranged for access to a site approximately 2 - 3 miles from the forest(belongs to Vicarsford Farm.) and is normally available for caravans. It is an accessable "bare" field site that has been used in the past at rallies. If you wish to use this site you can access it from the B945 (back road between St. Michaels and Tayport). As you turn off the A919 (Dundee - Leuchars, )drive for a mile and you will see a turning on the right for Kinshaldy beach/Tentsmuir Forest ...go straight past that turning and look for a SSHC sign on the right hand side of the road. Cost...£5 per night

2. Mushers meeting will now be at 8am with an 8.30 start both days to catch the best of the temperatures. The Ash Road access gate will still close at 8.15 as per the race brochure.

Gus/Pat - can you email me the name of your J1 entrant...I can't let Gus run it however much you plead!

Regards

We've been using this site for the past couple of years and its ideal. There is water and waste disposal and lots of molehills to use to fill in any holes dug by the dogs! But be warned the entrance into the field is tight if towing a caravan.
Haven't tried it with the LWB van yet, this weekend will be the first so it's going to be interesting!!

Have fun at the campsite everyone - but not *too* loudly or you might wake me up!!

Having said that, I could just wander down the road and join in the festivities. :)

This is a multimap link, David - although it's to my house rather than the race start, but it should give you an idea where to go.

This is the Streetmap one. I'm not sure how helpful it is, because there aren't any streets! I've also never notice that big red arrow hanging around here before......

Looking forward to seeing you all at the weekend,

Just a quick update for the campers amongst us...The distance from the turnoff to Kinshaldy beach and the campsite is exactly 1 mile. After you turn off the road at the "SSHC CAMPSITE" sign, go approx 50 - 100 yds and on your left you will see the entrance to the campsite field. There is a chain across the entrance (padlock has been removed).

Excellent rally.

Many thanks to Gary & Sandra and Hugh & Judy for
arranging this one.

Well done to all those who competed and especially
the winners, as with the large entry you would not
receive a top place by default.
