Now that would be telling, however we do have over 80 entries, which could make it the Clubs largest ever rally entry !!

Hi Ewan

Just wondering what the trail is like?  I know its 2 weeks away but could it be a sled rally?  We were training at keillour today on sleds on masses of snow!  And Glendevon has even more.  Unless we get a heatwave I expect the snow will be there for a while.

Any word on what it is like just now?

Hi Judy

If there is enough snow, then it will most definately be a sled race!  Grin However, the forcast is not looking like that will be the case - getting a good deal milder.

Currently, some of the trails are covered in soft, slushy snow, whilst others are completely thawed.

Look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks.

Mary

Hi Mary

Nice to hear from you.  How are you, the boys (big and little) and all the dogs? I bet you have had some fun on the sleds this year!  Smiley

Imagine the last race of the season being on sleds, what a way to finish.  Isn’t the weather weird though?  Given the amount of snow we have in the garden and the amount on the trails at Keillour and Glendevon, we thought you would have had loads left.  Well, looks like the rig will have to come out again, but maybe we wont pack the sled away just yet, just in case!

Looking forward to seeing you there and catching up.

Was chatting with the 'Trail Boss' aka John Carter (Co-organiser) earlier and he reckons the 'B' Class will be around 4 miles, which equates to about 5 miles workout wise in comparison to other trails, like Tentsmuir!!

This is probably going to be the most technical race ever held in the UK and all competitors are in for a real treat on these specially custom designed sled dog trails. There is a team of people who are going to be working on preparing the trails for the next two weeks, including the creation of a new section of trail which no dogs will have ever run on until the Saturday morning of the race.

Hi Ewan, sounds great. Can you just explain the bit about the 4 miles being more like 5 please?

Thanks

Hi Judy -

''around 4 miles, which equates to about 5 miles workout wise in comparison to other trails, like Tentsmuir!! ''

Well, when you think you've finished with getting up all the hills.............there's more  Wink!!!

We drove the quad round the proposed trail yesterday - I'm very excited about it.

There's a new long looped section that is to be established (Oberwiessenthal inspired!), plus another couple of new short sections where there is a few trees to be brashed and a few more to be removed, but once it's finished it's going to be fantastic and very exhillerating Grin    Can't wait.
For those that have raced here before - the first new looped section of trail will be bypassing the long fast downhill soon after the start, so no sleepless nights about negotiating that now!

Wish I was running it on a sled though - not been out on a rig since last November.   Shocked    - yes this year has just been the best ever here for running on sleds - Shame the last dump was when John was in Germany & he was not here to piste it!  Just a scattering of snow remaining here now. Sad

Well, I will be very happy if there isn't much snow because I have been looking forward to running at your place again for ages, and if it's a sled race I'll have to scratch. I'm probably in a minority of 1, but at least you know that you will be making one competitor very happy if it's a rig race, Mary.  kiss

The big question is, do I spend a load of money getting an adapted sled built over the summer? It's at times like this that we really need good long range weather forecasts!  Wink

Maybe I'll see if Matt can build me something that can switch between wheels and runners.....now that would be brilliant!

Helen - I'll keep searching on e-bay for a snow making machine then!!! Grin   Catherine - you should have made it up here when we had the snow - It's much, much easier on a sled - not so far to fall off, and a guaranteed soft landing!   Grin

We are considering having a 'mini' musher's meeting on the Friday night, attendance is NOT compulsory as the official musher's meeting will be, as advertised, at 08:15 on the Saturday morning.

One of the reasons for this is that we are considering having a draw for the starting order, so it will be truly random as seeding this event is proving quite challenging due to the diversity of the entries received. We are also considering showing videos of the trail. This is just a discussion we are having at present but would welcome and thoughts/comments on this and an announcement either way will be made next week  Cool

Weirdly we got snowed in the weekend of your snow day, Mary - I'm very sorry to have missed it, but I have had to accept that I can't stand up on the runners of a sled any more, however soft the landing!

At the moment I have everything crossed that I don't get stuck "down south" this coming week and miss one of the days.....sod's law says that is exactly what will happen.  Sad
