Hi Cameron

I have to disagree with you about there not being any show type siberians entered at the big races in Alaska, I have seen it myself & they finished the race. I did not expect them to & had to give them & their musher full credit at the end of the day.

Wow!!!!!

Im fairly new 2 this husky world and to th show ring and was really lookin forward to hopefully entering th sshc champ show but after reading this thread ill be giving it a wide berth!!! Its nerve wracking enough goin in 2 th ring without worryin about people commentin on my "type" of pup !!  I thought this was a friendly site where i could get advice an info on siberin huskys but actually id be scared to ask anything !!!

Hi Tricia  Smiley

Totally agree.  I was over whelmed to say the least  Huh  Many years ago now though (no jokes about my age! )  Wink

The guys I have now are all adopted from back door breeders.  I am reminded on a daily basis of how crucial it is that the Siberian Husky remains true to it's ancestory and is bred as a working sled dog with function in mind.

I know very little about showing and have found this thread educational.  Please don't ever be put off, I've learned so much over the years reading the board and always found it friendly  Smiley

Give that fab lad a hug from me and take good care of yourself.

Seoniad.

P.S. You should hear the critique my lot would get  Shocked  Wink   None of them very good examples of our breed.  Sibes through and through goes without saying but I never take offence if I hear negative comment as to their construction or place within the siberian world.  If that ever changes I'll come borrow your shot gun  Grin

Ah don't be put off Tricia this debate goes on and on and on. People will always critisise other people's choice of type of husky you just learn to get a thicker skin about it. I had people at ringcraft telling me Kayla would never get anywhere and she isn't to everyone in the husky world's taste either. I used to take it to heart but you know what she is a fantastic dog and I feel honoured to own her. She has done well in shows this year under breed specialists and all rounders and we have had a wonderful first race season with her. She is a little girl with a big heart. You know what though even if she had done poorly in ring and trail I would still be just of proud of her, to me she is the most wonderful husky in the world.

You have chosen a husky who ticks your boxes so be proud and enjoy your life with him. If you want to show him go there hold your head up high, enjoy it and ignore those who put you down and speak to the people who will help you enjoy your day regardless. We will never all agree what the perfect breed standard husky should look like and if they did people would have identical looking ones!

ahhh seoniad, shadow sends a slobbery kiss lol an britny he has his eye on ur baby hes very feisty himself lol  my pups a "show type" an hes exactly th way we want him 2 be we dont over feed him he eats arden grange 150g 1 or 2 times a day depends how he feels, an sardines once or twice a wk, an wen i do show trainin he gets fridge raiders lol he'd do anythin for a bit of sausage!!  Wink
b4 we got our pup we researched websites, contacted breeders, an visited our breeder beforehand, NOTHING can prepare u 4 a sibe lol that little bundle of fluff an cuteness used to terrorise me an im not affraid 2 say, had me in tears when at 11 wks was humpin me to dominate me!!! (ill get slated for that prob) but who cares!!! Grin  I grew up with german shephards who thrived on havin a master!!!  My little showdog thrived on terroisin mummy but im not 1 to be beaten, i persevered an now my 9 month old healthy, settled dog has taken his postion in our "pack" ! i was concerned about his weight at xmas time as had been told he was bit overweight so we cut his food back an swapped sausage for carrotts, i took him 2 th vet got him checked an vet said he was perfect, hes only a pup an if he has any excess weight he'l need it if hes 2 become unwell he'l fight infection quicker !!!  In his 9 months hes had kennel cough an conjunctivitis! kennel cough was caught at 1 of his 1st shows, 3 days on benilyn cough mixture cleared that up an 3 days of eye drops cleared his conjunctivitis up!
Iv not read anythin on here yet of any1 slaggin off th workin/skinny type,  each to their own, my pup might not be the "your" type but hes certainly my type so does that not show a change in th times??? i didnt watch a film an decide i wanted a husky i moved in with my other half who had ALWAYS wanted a husky so 3 yrs later we got 1 lol but good on th dogs that run 20 - 30 - 50 miles a day well done an cant wait to go 2 aviemore next yr , maybe wen i get my 2nd il compete! im goin 2 buy a bike an bug ann marie an michelle 2 help me train my pup an see how he goes with that! but if my pup would rather not work then so be it! i got him as a pet!!
anyhoo enoughs enough love shadow an me xx

Cam,
Hope your bringing something nice home and hope your wearing your Sorells Smiley
Chris,
Whos team of Fluffies was it then?

Why is it when we are all talking about a "generic dog" (ie the one discribed in the standard) that people immediately defend the dogs they have at home????

If you go to a Show you are asking for an opinion from the Judge, if you don't want that Judges opinion then why go in the first place?

tricia,
I have never attended a Show where exhibitors critisis one another or their dogs so don't be worried I'm sure everyone will be very nice.

Not wanting to belittle the achievements of the sled dogs in question and the musher driving them, how many of these dogs have ran races like these? Where have they finished relative to the rest of the sibe teams, relative to year on year times etc.
OK, I've only been here a little while and I do not claim to know it all just because I've holidayed here (I'm not that foolish), but I haven't seen a sibe here that is what people class as "show" type.
I have been told that some clubs have been formed with the sole purpose of "show" dog being able to get the SD awards. Dogs that get within x% of the winning dog.

The trouble with showing is that there are to many ring side judges who dont have the right to criticies any ones dogs!!
